What was your LO's first solid food? How did it happen and when?

We fed DD sweet potato first and avocado second.

i think we tried sweet potato or avocado, w/o much initial success. The first solid food she went for over the breast was spaghetti.

At 5.5 months I was eating a banana while holding him, and he grabbed the top half of it and shoved some into his mouth and ate it, smiled, and wanted more.

At six months old ds's very first solid food was mashed sweet potato; next was a boiled egg yolk from our free range hens. It's still a favorite!

avocado, I think around 8-9 months.

Roasted yams, at 8 months.

My ILs were in town from abroad, so we thought it would be fun to save one of her "firsts" for them to see.

It's ridiculous--there's video footage from THREE different video cameras and over a hundred photos (that's my ILs for you ), but DD couldn't have cared less. The ILs all commented to each other (in Russian so I wouldn't understand), "well of course she doesn't want it, she's holding out for meat."

i answered fruit, as it was avocado, but I gave her peas pretty quickly, and since i delayed solids she was eating a pretty big menu from the get go. 10 mo for dd1 8 mo for dd2... fed them both lots of different things from the time they wanted food, but avocado was first thing in both cases.

My youngest nursling ate canteloupe as his first food. He's still a fruit bat at 15 months -- his fave right now is red grapes. He likes non-fruit food too, but fruit is usually his first choice.

I chose veggies.
DD was sitting in my lap while I was eating and she grabbed a steamed carrot off my plate and started to gum it, she was 2 days shy of 6 months.
We started offering her a new food every few days and now she is eating so many things....carrots, squash, broccoli (her fave), peas, green beans, sweet potato, banana, pear, apple, chicken, beef, shredded pork, oatmeal, ceareal puffs, etc...almost anything "baby-friendly" even though at 8 months she still has zero teeth

I love that when we are out and stop to eat, I can feed her some of whatever I'm eating (for the most part) it makes it all much simpler.

My daughter grabbed cantaloupe from my plate and tried her best to eat it...at 10 weeks old! I never fed her more than a lick/taste of anything before she was 4 months but it was hard to hold her off. We started with avocados, bananas, and yams.

DS1: Avocado at around 12 months (we delayed solids).

We will likely delay solids and start with avocado with DS2 as well.

well i didnt know much then. i offered cereal. baby spat it out.

turned out to be avacado.

seh showed signs of wanting solids from when she was 4 months old. but i think it was more about taste rather than the whole eating solid thing. even at 6 - 7 months she was grabbing stuff off my plate, putting them in her mouth and then spitting them out.

two months later at around 8 - 9 months she ate some avacado and wanted more.

a week later i introduced peas.

tried fruit. she refused. then gave her plain yoghurt.

and then lentils and rice - soft but not paste. and after that no more mashed food ever again.

seh always prefered veggies.

At 7 mons I gave DS slices of avocado to explore. Then Banana, peaches, sweet potato, all self fed. He didn't do much but taste it and squish it till he was about 11 mons and had 4 teeth. Then he really got into consume food and has enjoyed food ever since

DD was 6.5 months old and we made roasted sweet potato "fries". Sat her in her little chair, and she tasted it and played with it and made a mess of herself.
