Skirt help!

I really love this skirt but am not willing to pay $130.. it looks like it would not be too difficult to make ( if I had a pattern!) .. how many panels do you think it is and how would you make the "ruffles"? I am assuming that they are offset inserts at the seams of the panels... Any advice?

When you zoom in it looks like 2 main pieces, front and back, with waist darts and a zipper. The description says it's on the side. I think the front and back panels were cut wider than needed from the hips down to accomodate the pintucks that hold the ruffles. I think each ruffle is probably cut like a donut shape with an opening to spread it out flat so that the inner circle becomes the edge that got sewed into the pintuck. The outer edge of each ruffle has a rolled hem.

That is such a pretty skirt! Silk isn't cheap if you were going to try to make it, but still less than $138! I've never sewn with silk--have you? Or do you have an idea of a different fabric to use? Linen could be nice, but the ruffle edges would be tricky without a serger.

Thanks ecoteat, I think you are right about two panels with pintucks.. I have a beautiful piece of eggplant purple silk.. I think I may do a trial run with a rayon/spandex blend before attempting the silk.. It is an adorable skirt.. Thanks again!!
