I had my IUD taken out on TUesday. Last night I fell and hit my head. I woke upat 4am to pee and was feeling dizzy so my partner took me to the er. They did a pg test as a part of teh routine bloodwork and I'm pg. THe problem is that I've been bleeding since I had the IUD taken out. Since it's Sat. I won't be able to see a doc until sometime next weke at the earliest. I 'm so scared! I don't feel pregnant at all. I don't know how this happend with an IUD. I had it taken out because i'm ready to ttc, but i'm scared that I'm having a miscarriage. At the er they said there was nothing they coudl do for me if i was having a miscarriage.

Has this happened to anyone? Is it possible this bb will stick? I didn't have my period while i had the IUD so I have no idea how far along I am. I'm freaking out.

Its quite possible to bleed and stay pregnant. It is actually somewhat common in perfectly healthy pregnancies.

The best you can do is relax, treat yourself pregnant and make a prenatal appointment with your doctor to have them check everything out.

Thanks girls. I'm worried because of the iud. i know that bleeding is normal. I bled withall three of mine. THe bleeding is weird, but i havent' seen any clots of anything sinec the first day it was taken out. I just don't feel pg. i was completely shocked when they said it.

I'm just going to take a nap and try not to obsess. There' s not much i can do, I guess.

women do get pregnant with the IUD still in... and if it is caught soon enough are able to get it taken out without harming the pregnancy (Im not sure how large the window is for that to be possible though)

Our first (twins) were conceived while I had an IUD. They removed the IUD at about 6 weeks (4 weeks after conception), and the babies were fine.

While it's true the ER can't do anything if you are having a miscarriage, they could still do an ultrasound! Did they not take a look to see whether there was a sac or anything? I would go in to the ER asking for that!

Good luck! I know it's hard not to worry, so just try to pamper yourself!

I wouldnt, considering its possible shes only about a week along (since she had a positive blood test, not urine test, implantation could have possibly only JUST happened) its possible an ultrasound would only cause more stress, that early it wouldnt show anything at all.

That is a good point ... but did they run numbers (beta) or did they just run a yes/no test? If they had numbers they might be able to tell how far along she should be...

She didnt say so I am assuming they did a yes/no

However, from her posts on TTC (saying she had a very faint test line on OPK the other day and then a bit darker the next day) I would assume its not that far along, since an OPK will turn positive around the same time a not-as-sensitive pregnancy test would. So I cant help but assume shes really not that far along.

(Im not stalking her, I swear! i just happened to remember her posts from TTC because I still frequent that forum)

I had my IUD out November 4, and got pregnanat around November 10. I actually didn't know because I was having bleeding so I just figured it was my period coming back all wacky (I didn't have a period on the IUD). My baby stuck and we are 18 weeks and counting. I bleed until around 14 weeks, however, so the bleeding may stick around for awhile. Hope everything works out for you!

I really do appreciate all of the replies.

I don't know what the heck is going on. I read somewhere that you can use an opk as a pg test, so i took one last night and it was darkly positicve. I took an hpt this morning and it was faintly positive. From what I read, the opk should be positive after the hpt. So that doesn't make sense. Also, I do not feel pg. If eel tired because I was up so early yesterday and never got a good nap and didn't sleep last night, but just regular tired not pg tired. My boobs don't hurt and i'm not throwing up. THose two things are the first signs that I'm pg, even when i've had miscarriages i've had those symptoms immediately. You know how you cna just tell? I can't tell.

The bleeding has slowed down but i'm still spotting every time i go to the bathroom. Not enough for a pad even just a pantyliner. I'm goign to call my doctor first thing in the morning.

The test they did in the er was just the yes or no test. It would have been four hours to wait for an ultrasound and I had to get home to my kids who were with my neighbhor who needed to go to work. The doctor also said it would rpobaby be too early to see anythign based on what i said.

I'm really just rtying not to get my hopes up too high. I know that if i'm miscarrying that I'll have to wait a while to ttc, and i think I'm okay with that. I might not havem uch of a choice.

Thanks again fora ll of your support.

Your OPK and HPT results make sense to me, actually. If your HPT was light, I'd say you are still much too early for anything to show on a u/s anyway (I'd guesstimate between 12 and 16 dpo).

Oh, Hang in there mama! I know how hard this is, I have lost 3 LO's myself.

There is a possibility that your bleeding is coming from having your IUD removed, as well as it possibly being implantation bleeding. It is very common for women to bleed, and even experience some cramping during pregnancy, especially in the 1st trimester (up to 50% do and things work out fine).
It sounds like you many not be that far along, and having your IUD removed early things usually progress just fine.
The ER is right in that if you are miscarrying there isnt anything that can be done at this point. Try to be gentle with yourself and rest as much as you can. I do agree wholeheartedly with the other PP that said a u/s at this time is not really going to give a lot of information. The sac may not yet be visible, and sometimes it can be more stress than you need. I am a firm believer that u/s should be kept to a minimum if at all possible.

Sending good sticky thoughts your way.

I thought that the opk wouldn't be positive until after an hpt, though. I was getting a fairly dark line ont he opk on Thursday! The hpt I used this morning was CVS midstream, which is supposedly fairly sensitive. I dno't have any more, this one was given to me by the friend who gave me the opks, so I'm not gonig to test again. I dont' want to torture myself. Lines on sticks won't help me keep the baby.

If I am pregnant, I can't figureo ut when it would have happened. I woulod think that i'd have to have conceived two weeks ago or just this past week because my partner was out of town last week. There were plenty of opportunities for me to fall pg this week, but even if I did there wouldn't have been enough time for even a blood test to show up positive, right? ANd now that I'm thinking about ti, I'm not even sure it was a blood test. I gave them a urine sample. They did draw blood, but I always have blood drawn when i go to any doctor because of other health problems i have. I can't think of what else the urine sample would have been for. If it was two weeks ago, by 14dpo a sensitive hpt should have shown a clearer line. This one was very, very faint but showed up in teh right time window and i could see it at arm's length. It also seems unlikely that i'd get pg with an IUD, you know?

It's all so confusing. Is it even possible to get a positive pg test at 5dpo? I've never heard of such a thing,a nd i've spent a lot of time on various ttc boards.
