Baby Led Weaning (solids)

Hey guys,
I have been giving my little guy a chunck of avocado and he puts the entire thing in his mouth and then gags and stuff. It makes me so stressed every time! Help me with this process please.

how old is your child? When mine were ready fo reating food (10 mo and 8 mo) I only gave them little bits one at a time. I wanted to let them feed themselves as I believe all babies can, but my paranoia was too strong. dd2 started earlier than dd1 and i still mash or feed her tiny bits even now....

May I suggest either giving much bigger or much smaller pieces? Also, if you read about BLW you'll see that gagging (as opposed to choking) is actually healthy and to be expected. Your child is simply learning to manipulate food in his mouth and if a chunk goes too far back, the body helpfully propels it back to the front of the mouth.

I know it's not the easiest thing to watch, but try and remain calm unless it seems like your DS is really not coping.
