What to do with 7 yo Avent baby bottles?

What should I do with these bottles? I used them for my daughter 7 years ago and I'm expecting a new baby any day now. BUT - I have some glass bottles that I would like to use instead.

Should I donate them? They look fine - not cloudy. Should I keep the larger ones? Or all of them in case the new baby won't take the nipples on the glass bottles? Just throw them away? I have a women's shelter to take them if we decide they are donation-worthy. I have at least a dozen and they are actually taking up a good bit of room.

I also have the little bottles that came with the Medela PIS breast pump 7 years ago. Are they any good? Would they have BPA?

I think the older Avent bottles have BPA. I had a few from when ds1 was a baby, and I trashed them.

i would pass them on. the new(er) medela bottles are bpa free....not sure about 7 years ago. the evenflow classic nurser glass bottles fit onto the medela PIS pump. i would pass all the plastic and switch to glass. they do make some brands of wide mouth glass bottles if your lo doens't like the narrow ones.

I don't know about the Avent bottles, but I contacted Medela recently about an 8 y.o. breast pump that I am trying to sell. They got back to me and said "Medela products are and have always been BPA free."

They contain BPA. I would replace them.

Hey thanks. This is helpful. I've got those little bottles with the yellow tops from the PIS.

If you're looking to reuse them, you can use them as paint storage. When I was teaching, I would put the nipple in upside down and cut the hole a little wider, then screw it onto a bottle filled with paint. The child can dip the brush in and as they pull it out, the nipple helps scrape off the excess paint. It's hard to describe, so I hope I was successful, LOL! Just an another option...

Here's a blog that does something similar, but without the nipples.

I think the paint idea is awesome!! Yes they will contain BPA and the return period has long passed to have them refunded or replaced.
Otherwise they are recyclable.

I have some inserts that turn the collars into a sealed lid. They've been used a few times to transport drinks for my older DD or to bring homemade salad dressing to a pot luck. I've also used it as a measuring cup for fluids.

I like the paint container idea. Maybe I'll put a few down in my workshop. Something with measurements on the sides can be so useful.

No wait. Pitch them. Pitch them all.

We have some and I still use them. I'm not too worried about the BPA issue as we are not heating them up and they are not my kids main food container.

Anyway with the sealing discs in the top they are pretty good for making single servings of youghut from the big tub, taking along a few raisins in my bag and that sort of thing. They make pretty good storage in the fringe for leftover gravy.

I like the idea of making non spill paint pots with the teats in, I may have to see if we still have some.

If you intend using some bottles with a new little on I would keep one on hand, if your LO prefers them you can always replace them with BPA free ones.

Finally I would offer them on freecycle before dumping them, there may well be someone who wants to use them for paint pots or whatever.

If you check the bottom of the bottle and you see the #7 recycle symbol then they have BPA. The new ones have #5 on the bottom. I really like the painting idea that is cool. I have already thrown my old ones out.

So - do you need any paint storage bottles? I'm not on free cycle.

Nooooo. I have my own supply. More than I remember.

The paint thing is a great idea! I don't know if ours are still in storage or not, but I would use some for that. I use some with the little plastic stopper (so the no nipple tops) as "jars" for play food--play pasta, little wooden carrots, etc.

I turned our unused bottles into little maracas with dried beans and pasta.
