Adding milk from different times of the day to bottle?

I am getting ready to go back to work and trying to figure out the logistics of storing after I pump at work. I am pumping into 5 oz. medela storage bottles, but I never pump 5 oz. at a time. Is it OK to add milk from different pumping sessions throughout the day to the same bottle?

Yes it is ok, but, for reasons I don't know, you are not supposed to add warm milk to cold, I have though. I am an EPer, for storage, I make up my bottles for the next day the nite before and I pump into storage bottles the next day, for me this makes my days easier. I make more than I need so every couple of days I freeze into Lansinoh bags. I have heard of leaking issues with bags, I've only have a few leak and I having been using up my older milk stash. I wish I had frozen the bags flat though, I drop my bags into small round plastic containers, good for thawing, takes up more room in freezer.

Absolutely fine. You need to cool it if you're going to add it to frozen milk, but otherwise you can add it straight to earlier expressed milk.

Yep, you sure can combine milk from the same day, just cool it first before you combine it. I've just heard you can't combine milk from different days, though I'm not sure why.

I agree with the other Mamas. Sometimes I don't pump enough to fill a bag, so I'll wait until the next pumping session to fill and freeze.

yes, I combine milk from several days somtimes, I just label it as though it was the oldest milk.

The warm to cold thing, (I think) is to keep people from adding fresh, bodytemp milk to frozen, and having the frozen milk thaw enough to start bacteria growing.

Can you? Yes. Should you? Maybe not. Resent research shows that the composition of breastmilk changes through out the day. What the baby needs in the morning is different than what the baby needs at night. So what you express in the morning may not be what you should feed your baby right before evening bedtime. Here's a link to an article discussing the findings.
