Ultrasound at the ER: "Pocket of Fluid?"

I'm a little over 7 weeks I've had a few incidences of bright red bleeding in the past week. The first time I went to my OB, she said not to worry, the baby looked fine, but to come back if it got worse. Friday night, around 10PM, it got worse. We went to the ER, and they took urine and blood samples, then took me to ultrasound. The ultrasound tech, who is not supposed to interpret anything he sees, told me a lot. He told me that I have a retroflexed uterus. He also told me that the baby's heartbeat was 175bpm, and that he is measuring about 7wks6days. Then, he told me that he could see a "pocket of fluid." He didn't say exactly where it was. He said that "it could be anything," such as a ruptured cyst, an infection, that there wasn't any way for him to tell from the ultrasound.

After I went back to my room, the doctor came in and told me NONE of this. He just said the baby seemed okay and I need to rest and go back to the doctor for another HCG draw. He was completely unhelpful and unexplanatory.

Anyway, I have naturally been researching everything that can be causing vaginal bleeding that is NOT a miscarriage. I had an early miscarriage a little over a year ago, but I never even saw a heartbeat.

My question is, does this sound like a subchorionic hematoma to you guys? The "pocket of fluid?" Does it sound like something else? I'm kind of hysterical, not knowing if my baby is going to be okay, and I just want to know WHAT IT IS, *what* is causing the bleeding, you know?

I really don't have any experience with this, so I don't know what it could be but I wanted to just tell you I'm pulling for you and your baby.

Please keep us posted.

Hard to tell from the description, but I had a small subchorionic hematoma with this pregnancy (my 3rd) that was detected on US. The doc at the hospital who reviewed the scan (was a dating US as I have highly, highly irregular cycles) told me not to be surprised if I saw some spotting in a few days.

There was some scary info online, but most of those cases were worst case scenarios. My midwives and lots of other things I read suggested a SCH usually resolves itself just fine. Some mamas have very large bleeds but it does not affect the baby. Based on the description you gave it would be tough to say (IMO) whether that's what you are dealing w/ but it might be one possibility.

I ended up calling my midwives afterward because while the original doc didn't seem concerned, I went home and googled and got worked up. They were quite reassuring when I talked w/ them and I felt a bit better. I only ever ended up with a small amount of brownish spotting.

Can you call and ask your doc/midwife if they think it could be a SCH?

Hugs to you.

Because they arent worried over it... yes that is what it sounds like to me. It would definitely cause bleeding but isnt necessarily anything to worry about... many women get them and have perfectly healthy pregnancies!

The ER doctor told me to go back to my OB early this week for another HCG draw, but I don't know if she will see me. I would like to discuss all of this with her in-depth, but don't know if that's going to happen.

Thanks for the replies, ladies.
