Embroidering on vinyl

OK, DH is fixing up his boat, and he bought some heavy-duty vinyl that he would like me to machine embroider some logos & such on that goes on the inside walls of the boat. There's enough extra fabric there for me to practice with, but does anyone have any tips or suggestions as to which stabilizers to use? I don't want it to end up all puckered up or something.

I haven't done it yet - but I bought some vinyl to try it also - and the girl and the cutting table told me to get a ballpoint needle - so that it wouldn't tear. Good luck!!

Thanks! I saw some needles that were for leather & imitation leather that I got to use. I hope to try on a scrap piece soon.

Well, I spent most of Saturday getting it all done. I used a universal needle, and a medium-weight tear away stabilizer on the back. DH thought it turned out great, and really likes it. Here's a pic of it in the boat, there's another one identical on the other side of the boat too:

It's a picture of the interior of the boat; the words on the hatch door is what I embroidered on the vinyl.
