My sister has really enjoyed watching Kimora's My Life in the Fab Lane -the little girls in the show are her age. Not my favorite role models (damn they are rich) but helped with the little girl who told her only blonde and straight are pretty.

Princess Diaries is a great (horrible?) example of this. It came out when I was in college but in the very recent past I had had braces, curly hair, and glasses. They straightened the girl's hair, bought her contacts (which I now wear), and removed her braces (not positive if I'm remembering the braces part right- but mine were removed half way through college).

if you ever allow her to watch movies, you could let her watch old shirley temple movies (like rebecca of sunnybrook farm). they probably have them at your public library. i loved those movies as a kid and had serious curl-envy.
