Favorite Early American History Spine for elem. age kids?

This is what my kids have chosen to study this summer. I do prefer a living books approach, but I'd also like a (secular if possible) non-fiction spine to use as a starting point. Kids are ages 6-10.

Any suggestions?

I couldn't find one that I really liked. I used A History of US and while it is wonderful to read, it goes into such detail that I thought it would be better as a middle school or even high school spine. My favorite thing right now is this:
