Good alternative to offensive term

Well I don't personally find offensive, coming from an Irish family that used it lovingly but many people find the term "Irish twins" etc very offensive. So what would be a good term that people would automatically know the babies are less than a year apart?

Yes many people do find it offensive. It started out as a slur and while it might be used affectionately by many, it didn't stop being a slur.

I am not aware of another term but maybe someone else is.

Maybe - almost twins. sample siggy

julie mom to almost twins ryan and gloria, tammy and george.

I think that would work.

Or how about wanna be twins? But then that might upset some people, the whole wanna be thing, maybe??

I would call them back to back babies. One after the next...consecutive kids, something of that nature.

back to back babies is cute

It isn't a term I use, but can someone explain to me why it is offensive? I understand what it means, but not why it would be offensive.

It's offensive to some because it is a comment on Irish Catholics having many babies one after the other (and/or their refusal to use contraception due to religious reasons). It seems to have originated when many Irish came to America as poor immigrant families with many children and struggled to fit into American society.

I would assume an Irish mother of "back to back" babies is free to use the term "Irish twins" if she chooses. I mean, if 'she' is not offended, what would be the problem?
