Vegetarian Myth Author Pied in the Face while speaking...

You won't believe it when you read it. Just terrible. (The pie had cayenne pepper in it, according to the comments attached to this 'article'.)

B/c of Lierre Keith's stance on local foods and sustainable farming etc., along w/ the great impact and importance her book _the vegetarian myth_ has (and how it rings true for many of the former veg*ans like myself in this forum), I thought this info would be of interest to some of you here.

OMG, that's so horrible! I hope she's OK.

I read that there was so much cayenne in the pies that her vision was still negatively affected hours later.

To read about it from a non-vegan website:

Let's support her and buy her book:

Gosh, was the cayenne really necessary? Pieing alone I can understand as a mostly harmless form of protest against someone's message but adding a substance to actually cause harm is really just mean and immature. Tsk.

I hadn't heard of this woman though, looks interesting! She seems very to the point.

No one should be pieing anyone in the face for anything. That is awful.

Either way it's considered assault. The addition of the cayenne with intent to injure would elevate the charges. I certainly hope charges are pressed if there truly was cayenne in the pie.

right, it is illegal to assault someone even if damages are minor and not long lasting.

Agreed, this is terrible to do to anyone! I am not vegan and never have been and have no CLUE who this lady is at all. All I can think is how immature and brainless it is to pie someone. "hey I don't agree with you so I will throw a pie at your face, hehehe I am so smart I will add cayenne pepper as well".
Jesumcrow if you don't like what she is saying have a dialouge not an assult! Stage an actual protest outside where she is speaking. There is a time and place for everything and throwing food is for a food fight, not for showing your disagreement with someone elses opinion. I wish I was so morally bankrupt that I could throw food in someones face everytime I disagreed with them!

Some of the comments on Mark's page are pretty funny....

I just find it hard to picture any of us going to a vegan event and lobbing a meatza at a speaker. Mostly because it would be such a waste of good food.
