Have to share - organize books by color.

A friend of mine did this and she got the idea from a magazine or such, I don't remember. Anyways, I finally caved and did it and it looks SO cool. I had to share and inspire others to join the craziness.

Books before:

Books after:

These are just paperbacks. I don't have enough to do it with my hardcovers yet. LOL.

I have DD's bookcase organized by color and I think it makes it easier for her to find what she's looking for. It does look cool in her room.

I couldn't do my books that way though - they are organized by author if fiction (alphabetically) or by subject if non-fiction. My DH kids me about having CDO (that's OCD, alphabetized like it should be).

I bet that wall makes you smile!

Oh, that looks so pretty!

CDO is hysterical!

I organize my books by subject but dang...I love the way yours look! Someday I may give that a shot!

Awesome!

I love your built in shelves and the colours look so pretty!

But I would never arrange my books that way. I have far to many to remember the spine colour of every single title - how can you possibly find what you are looking for?

i'm a bit more anal. fiction on the left, nonfiction in the right; subject, in alphabetical order from left to right, and then, author in alphabetical order. it's a pretty intense filing system, but it makes things easy to find and to pack!

but, by color does look really pretty! it would get me, though, because some of my favorite fiction series (i prefer a series) have different colored paper covers!

As OCD as I am about a lot of things, I cannot keep books in any order. Probably because other hands get into them.

Ok, so thats pretty beautiful!!

But, like others have said... what about series?!?! Some of them have different colord covers, and there is just no.way. that I could deal w/ my series being split up!! But very pretty!!

Our books are more-or less not organized I guess they are somewhat by subject, but mostly just not. My dad & I just kinda have a mental list of where book X would be (or where to look for it first... then second... then third....)

That looks awsome!

That does look really cool!

I could never do that though, my books are arranged by author(if fiction, and series must always be together) and nonfiction is arranged by subject; top to bottom they are all arranged by classics(top left), then by how much I treasure them weighed against how often they are needed for reference...except for the art books which are treasured but placed at kid height to encourage them to look at them more. If I arranged by color I'd still be able to pick my books out but it would drive me crazy!

In fact, as I look over at my shelves now I can see that someone has been messing with the system and I am going to need to fix that later(...Gah!!! and someone has started sticking the kids' Redwall books where no Redwall books should ever go...they don't even belong in this room! GAaAH!!!...)

But I wish I could arrange them by color because I really reallylike the way that looks!

Hmm, reading that over I sound like an ocd nut It's just the books, really, lurve my books

That looks so nice, even with different size/shape books! I wonder if I have enough space to try that, we have too many books and not enough shelves...

I love your shelving unit too, it looks so neat and spacious!

So pretty!! What a great idea!

I can't look past those built-ins to see the books

Very pretty!

I think I've seen this done on Chez Larson.

It looks good but I find it really impractical especially if you have lots of books. My books look good because I removed all the dust covers and I face the books to the front of the shelves.

i really like that! a book rainbow!
