Have to share - organize books by color. - Page 2

That's so cool! I wish we could do that, but my husband has our (his) books organized by subject, then alphabetically by author. (*cough*OCD*cough*) Wouldn't fly in this house!

That looks SO cool. I'd go crazy finding things though. I have everything organized by subject.

Now you need to sort them by size as a subset.

I love your bookshelves!!! I covet nice shelves. I'm still using the Target ones that have made it through 10 years of moves... They have to be propped up by a wall these days.

(I'm another sort-by-subject/author/fiction vs. nonfiction kind of gal, but I couldn't read your post without telling you I heart your shelves. They are so nice!)

No, you don't. I do the same thing. If there's two of us, we aren't nuts!

Aw, thanks for all the positive comments! That wall of shelves is the first thing you see when you walk downstairs so I really love how it looks.

I'm also cracking up at all those who couldn't do it because of the lack of organization.

I have even more shelves upstairs - but nowhere near enough hardcovers (I keep all hardcovers up in the library, paperbacks in basement, that is the extent of my book organization) to do this. One day...

This is GORGEOUS! I did it with my cookbook collection, but the visual is MUCH less striking than yours, because I *only* have about 50 cookbooks! I would love to have a huge wall like this, though.

I wish I could do it--it's so pretty!! But even now that I've gotten rid of 75% of my books (I was a lit major and a law student, and book-worm on top of it), I still couldn't! I only have two little bookshelves of books. But even still I put them in a loose arrangement by subject, authors, series.

My current system is actually pretty loosey-goosey considering: I grew up in a house where my dad had THOUSANDS of paperbacks in our library. (The others were somewhere else in the house.) It was brick and board shelves from floor to ceiling all around the perimeter of the (large) room plus a whole lot of excess in a walk-in closet. Not counting the kids books. And the books that we kids kept in our own room. ANYWAY---the library was organized by non-fiction, fiction, science-fiction...then author, then title. You really could find anything. It took FOREVER to re-do when we had to empty the shelves when the basement flooded!! He had all three kids alphabetizing all over the floor for days!

Guess I'm just saying--OCD-ness about books is hereditary! My son is only three and already shows signs when arranging his toys!

That looks so COOL, but the librarian in me screams nooooooo!

Actually, I would just have to create a catalog for the books with color being a new data field and, then the books would be by color and then by author, and thirdly title.

That's me too. The librarian in me couldn't do it. My parents did it on a small scale. They just did one shelf attached high on the living room wall and filled it with old books they have inherited. All my grandparents schoolbooks and poetry. It looks great.

I was seriously skeptical ... until I saw the "after" picture. That looks super cool!

I'm in the process of having bookshelves built, and I'm going to give the color matching a try. It will be a great kick in the fanny for me to get out of my by-subject-by-size rut.

Hahaha! That looks great. We actually did this with DD's 3 bookcases of children's books, but as they are all different sizes and shapes, it doesn't look nearly as good as your paperbacks. I got the idea from a slide show of bookcase photos on hgtv.com.
