Sleep regression in 19mo??

Does any type of sleep issue normally happen around this age or am I just hoping for an easy answer?

DS was doing well. Falling asleep within 30min usually betw 8 & 8:30. We had just gotten him into an earlier schedule. Before that he wasn't going to sleep until 9:30 or 10 every night.

Well, starting on Fri, it all went to hell . I dont know what the prob is.

All seemed normal. He was almost asleep. Then up he sat. To the door he went & all hell broke loose bec he wanted to go downstairs (where his Dad was watching TV). We decided to bring him down for a few min & it was just a few min - 10at the most. Kisses to Dad & the dogs again. Back up we went - all of us. He put up a little fight, but was sleeping in 15/20min at 9:30.

Sat & tonight were the same story, but tonight was the worst. Even when all lights were out & everyone was in bed he wanted to be up & playing. I finally convinced him to snuggle in the spare room at 10:30 & he was sleeping by 11.

I will say on Sat he kept rubbing his neck. It was clearly bothering him. Maybe a little sore throat? But he seems fine during the day & no other symptoms of a cold.

What the heck??

Darn. Should I have put this in the nightime parenting section instead of here?? Please move is appropriate. Thanks.

My dd just turned 2o months and is getting her 2 year molars. Her behavior and sleep is all over the place right now. I can't wait until this passes. Her nose is running like a faucet and the doc said previously that teething can cause it. So, maybe your LO is teething?

we had some pretty awful nights right after ds turned 18 months. I'm pretty sure it was teething though, he was getting that first set of molars on top, then on bottom too. I've heard of other kidos going through an 18-19m sleep regression though, hopefully it doesn't last long!

I was going to say teething too.

Yeah they say there is an 18 month sleep regression. Ours lasted from about 16-20 months and was also due in part to molars. Teething molars are the worst! I don't know how we made it through that phase, the poor sleep was an all night long thing and kept us all up.

How's his napping?

His napping has been fine.

I do think he is getting his molars too.
I didnt even think about it effecting his sleep. Thanks!!

My 20 month old is having some serious sleep issues right now. They started 4 weeks ago. He went from going to sleep with no problems, in about 15 minutes, and sleeping from 7:30 until 5:30 or 6, to taking up to an hour to get down and waking constantly. Honestly, it's been awful. At first, it was just a problem getting him to sleep -- over the past two weeks it has developed into a problem of staying asleep as well. He will only sleep if DS or I are holding him, and it's hard to sneak away.

I have read that there's an 18 month sleep issue that seems to affect a lot of LOs this way. From what most people say, it appears to be a combination of teething, separation anxiety and developmental issues. It also appears to last between 4 and 6 weeks, and the things go back to "normal." I certainly hope so, because I can't take much more!

DD is 2; we've had several periods of sleep regression over the last year. The longest lasted about 6 weeks, at 14 months. Another one around 18 months, and we might be hitting another mini-one now at 25 months as she experiments with giving up a nap.

My guess is that it's just a stage...

As soon as I saw the thread title, my money was on molars. DD1 got hers at about 20 mo and it was wretched. First time I resorted to pain medication that wasn't homeopathic. Not looking forward to it coming up again soon!

"Wretched"! I couldn't have described it better! We too gave him some tylenol or ibuprofen at bedtime when it seemed he'd been teething particularly bad that day.

Yeah, we started giving DS Tylenol at bedtime when his molars were coming in (they all came at once, so it was fast, but HARDCORE), and we're not real Tylenol-givers. It helped some, but mostly we just had to wait it out.

Very reassuring to read this. My dd is almost 19 months old, has had some seriously bad nights lately, and I'm pretty sure I saw one of her 2-year molars peaking through today. I was hoping for a longer break before those 2 year molars, but I guess it is good...let's just get 'er done and be done with teething!

DS's sleep has gone to the dogs lately as well!!!

I actually stopped nursing DS before bed (for a couple of reasons, actually, mostly illness-induced impetuousness ) and one of the big reasons was because he kept waking up and I thought my supply was gone.

It's not fun, is it?
