A few Questions from a newbie and 1st Timer

I beg your patience and indulgence. I am sure these have been covered here before but I need to know.

We are trying to get pregnant. I drink very little alcohol begin with (about a 1 -2 a week as a cocktail - no beer or wine). But, when should I cut that out completely? I have also started taking 0.4mg of Folate a day since my last MP. I have tried to cut down on coffee as well (that is harder and I consume about 3 strong cups a day).

Am I doing it right? Advice please. We will not know till another 4 weeks or so. And I expect, from reading here, that Morning sickness will not manifest itself for a few more weeks.

It would probably be better for you to post over in http://www.mothering.com/discussions...play.php?f=178 which is a forum for getting pregnant, rather than for women who already are

Welcome!

First, and I say this to anyone I know is TTC. Go out and buy the book Taking Charge of Your Fertility, if you don't already have it. It's makes sense out of the whole ttc process and it's really neat to learn what your body's been doing all of these years after you got your first period.

The alcohol is a iffy thing. Personally, I think that moderate drinking....I'd define that as 3-4 cocktails a week....is just fine. I've heard second hand of a studythat showed that light to moderate drinking can actually help a fertilized egg implant as it makes the lining of the uterus more receptive. I've also heard second hand that even light drinking can harm attempts at getting fertilized eggs to sick. I've never met anyone that had issues with conceiving and then stopped the cocktails and then bam, got pregnant. I think that one is a personal choice. For me, I didn't stop my drinking but I did stop drinking after I know I O'ed until I got my period.

Coffee, IMO, is prolly' along the same lines as alchol but most TTC'ers seem to cut it out right away. It's a good habit to break anyway because you'll want to cut back/cut out the coffee when you do get pregnant.

Morning sickness and most other pregnancy symptoms are totally individual to the person and to that pregnancy. Some women never get M/S, some get M/S the day of their BFP, some women get sore breasts, some do not. The symptoms, and lack of, will make you crazy if you think they mean more than they do.

You're doing it right! Good luck!

Thank you both very much for your prompt responses. Looking to go from TTC to Preg status. Pray for us. Cheers.

Good luck, Vlada! I've been at it for a while, and I've come to the point that I moderate my intakes starting around 6 or 7dpo, but don't cut out completely. That's just for my own insanity. I think it's based on comfort level, but ask your doctor to be sure. Come on over to the TTC forum if you want! We're a nice bunch.

Moving to TTC.

Good luck! You might want to start taking 800micrograms (is that .8?) of folic acid, since that's what "they" recommend for pregnant women.
