Rosetta Stone

Thread Starter
I want to use Rosetta Stone Spanish for my ds (12, 9, 7) next year. For anyone who has used it before, can I just get one and they all share, or do they each need their own programs? Also, is it too advanced for my 7 year old?

Thanks

Yes, they can all share but unless you get the homeschool edition you won't be able to track progress individually and they'll have to keep track (on paper, say) of what lessons and units they've done. The program will think Child 2 is repeating the work Child 1 has done, but it won't care. You can do that easily.

If you buy the homeschool edition you get the ability to have multiple logins and track the progress of multiple users. It's similar to the version schools use, minus the ability to network the program.

Totally fine for a 7-year-old. My kids began using it independently at about age 5.

Really?
We have the regular version and ds and I log in separatly and are tracked separately.
My 5 yo does it independently as well.

Oh, I'm sorry, perhaps they've changed this with the newer versions. Ours is older.

I THINK how it works is that the version 3 copies of the program allow multiple logins, while the older versions don't.

The thing is not all languages are released in version 3. Spanish should be fine, it is the less popular languages where this is an issue. (we have Welsh, for example, where version 2 as as good as it gets).

oh btw my 4 year old and my 6 year old both use it independently. The only issue we've had is that I don't think you get THAT much language at level 1, and in Welsh you only have level 1. So we're having to try to find alternative resources, and there is simply nothing as good out there! (we have a big problem with Welsh-we live in Wales and so our kids are pretty keen to learn Welsh, but we are not Welsh speakers and there is NO access at all to child-level Welsh classes outside the schools)

Have you seen these Welsh resources?

We're using RS French with my 6-year-old. He loves it, but we haven't been doing it long enough for me to know how good of a job it is doing. I do sit with him for most of his lessons, to help curb his inclination to just click and see if he gets it right. If I sit with him and remind him to listen to what is being said before randomly clicking he gets a lot more out of it, and enjoys it more. We also use the French flashcards form the site I linked to for the Welsh resources. They may have Spanish as well.
