Silly Question-Traveling Worry

So, we are about to embark on a trip. Do I need to worry at all about them not believing ds is our son (he is dark dark brown and we are very pale cream skinned). If so, is there anything I should bring with me? I hesitate to bring originals of anything for fear they could be lost.

Experiences? Horror stories? Don't worry, Jaya, reassurance?

Where are you going?

If you are taking your child out of the country then you will certainly need documents for ALL of you. Otherwise you should be just fine. Who is the "them" you're worried about?

I travel with my kids all of the time. DS2 is obviously of east African descent, while the rest of us are obviously of northern European descent. Just as obviously, DS2 is part of our family- there's no doubt when he's fighting with his siblings and says, "Mom! Make her stop!"

We've never had any issues.

Never had an issue either - we've been all over the country, and our daughter is obviously not biological related to either of us. Multiracial families are quite common in lots of places - no one's blinked an eye going through airport security.

If you're truly nervous, make a copy of the adoption decree from your state and tuck it in your purse.

I took my (then four month old) foster son out of the country (well kinda, it was just canada! ) along with my bio older son...the CA border guard was WAY WAY more interested in whether i was kidnapping my older son from his father (who isnt even listed on his bc, which i had with me), asking him all sorts of questions about whether his dad knew about his trip, etc etc...then the little black baby i had in the back seat. She barely glanced at the permission to travel i had from the FC agency.

I would just make a copy of his bc and adoption papers just in case, although you probably wont have any issues.
