Thyroid...

Okay, y'all...I've been on thyroid medication since I was 19...so 13 years or so. I've been on the same dose for about 2 years now. I went for my yearly check up (I did have the levels checked by RE with September pregnancy TSH 1.3 then) on Friday...the nurse just called with my results TSH 0.088 and Free T4 1.94. I've gone from hypo to eu to hyper! My endocrinologist is reducing my med dose. The nurse also said to stop fertility treatment!

Ack! I've no idea what to do about this (obviously I'll take the lower dose) fertility wise and healthwise. I have *no* symptoms of being hyperthyroid--no heart palpitations, I sleep well, I'm not losing weight, gah! Could this have caused my most recent loss?

What are the ramifications if I am pregnant now? I'm 8dpo...

I'm not freaked out I just have all these questions...I called the doctor back and the nurse said not to worry this just happens sometimes and they don't know why (okay, for my body I accept that! It can be freaky!) but that lowering the dose and checking in 6 weeks was aggressive treatment.

Sooo...anyone btd? Anyone know anything about fertility/pregnancy and hyperthyroid? Help please!

Jenne

(This seemed the best place for this as I'm mostly concerned about the TTC/pregnancy aspect but if it fits better in infertility or health/healing that's fine too...)

I've not exactly BTDT but i thought i'd post...

I was dx with hashi's in December 2006. Last May i had a Mirena coil removed so DH and i could ttc #2.

I had a super-faint BFP then a heavy period the first month after. The next cycle i had another BFP, still faint but stronger this time. I went to the GP at 4weeks to have my levels tested, and i was at TSH 2.9 or so and FT4 12 (not sure what your ranges are, my lab's normals are 9-21 for FT4 and 0.5-5.0 for TSH). At 5weeks i had some brownish spotting. At 7weeks i had a miscarriage. By chance i had my levels done again at 6 weeks (they wanted 4-weekly and the next opening for a rolling 4-weekly appointment was 2 weeks after my initial test). My TSH was 6.7, and my FT4 was 7. My GP and i discussed this, and he adjusted my dose from 75mcgm/day to 100mcgm/day.

The next time i saw him (4 weeks later) i was pregnant again, and this time my TSH was 1.3, and my FT4 was 19. 4 weeks later the levels were TSH 1.78 and FT4 14.3. I am POSITIVE that having a failing pregnancy sent my levels crazy and my body had a mini post-partum toxicosis episode after that 7-week loss.

The newest pregnancy continued as normal, and i am now 29weeks. My levels have been stable throughout and my TSH is now slowly creeping down and my T4 up. Not sure what use any of this is, except to say that i think fluctuations like this are probably very normal, but only hypo/hyperthyroid women are regularly tested around these times.

Hang in there, i hope you get pregnant soon!

Jenne,
I did IVF with egg donor last year, and was seen by an RE and my OB frequently- had my TSH tested repeatedly and managed aggressively (I have hashi's also and am on near replacement dose). My docs intentionally kept my TSH below one at all times while ttc- sometimes it was as low as .09. I had no hyper symptoms either. I got pg no problem, first try, and am now 28 weeks with healthy babe. I think it's okay to be a bit hyper while ttc. My tsh actually spiked at 9 or 10 sometime around the six week mark. You have to watch it, but if you're watching it you should have no problems.

Thank you both for your responses. I feel...calmer...now! Sigh. It's always something, right? This too shall pass...
