Hi Mamas,
I'm 29 weeks pregnant and have been leaking colostrum since about 16 weeks.... It started as just little amounts while I was sleeping. Now I occasionally get a good drip drip drip going In the last week my nipples sting when I'm dripping. Its not a constant sting though. Is this normal? Could it be yeast? any tips?

Hi, Bublette! I don't know if this helps, but I always got a lot of stinging with letdown after DS was born. I'd ask your care provider though if it's worrying you.

If it is infection you should have other signs, like white dots on or around the nipple (yeast) or reddish lines, splotches, or hot areas on your breast (bacteria). Otherwise, I get a stinging pain with letdown right now due to the pregnancy hormones (I'm still BF my older child), so it could just be that. The sting I get is right inside the nipple, sort of one cm behind the opening. HTH!

Thanks!
No white dots, redness, or real pain. It's just a stinging right at the nipple. I planned on talking to the mw when I saw her next but figured it couldn't hurt to ask others too. Pregnancy does suck weird and wonderful things to the body.

if this is your first baby then you probably haven't experienced this before. it's called let down. I experienced this while nursing. I think it's the feeling you get when your brain sends the signal to your breast for the milk to come out. it is really amazing and not all women get it from what I understand. your body is so amazing you are just going to be blown away with the whole experience. I was. I got let down whenever I heard a baby cry. or if i smelled my child. or sometimes just thinking about him would cause this.

Yeah I don't get it when I leak colostrum. Lucky for me, because I leak all the time.

I thought maybe you were talking about leaking-unrelated stinging, which I had occasionally since becoming pregnant when I was really cold. Felt more like razor cuts, lasted for 10-20 minutes. Probably that went away because the weather is warm now. Weird :/
