Ear Infection Experts!

11 month old DS4 started randomly falling over while crawling the other day, plus occasional head tilting and nodding. He's had a runny nose without fever for 10+ days, so when I took him in to see the ped, the doctor declared an ear infection.

"That explains everything!" He said.

Does it really? I don't have much experience with ear infections. This is ds's second one, but the first was accompanied by a super high fever. I should also add that though he doctor said his left ear is infected, the right one is the one looking all gooey!

He's been on antibiotics now for three days, but was still doing the head nod thing (like he's saying yes). Feeding isn't getting any better, so he's been nursing nonstop (plus spitting up several times a day).

I'm so confused!!

I'm also very tired of being "that mom" at the doctor's office, and this is probably my third or fourth post about my ds in the past month. You'd think after four babies I could relax...

ETA: Here's a video of the grimacing he was doing that the ped says is related to the infection.

Have you tried eliminating all dairy casein sources and adding whole food probiotics?

So hard!! Can you afford to see a ND instead? I would do probiotics like Wuwei said and try to eliminate all dairy. Have you tried garlic/mullien drops for his ears. I wish I could offer more help...

Just out of curiosity, because he's about 99% breastfed, would I need to eliminate dairy? I haven't been able to get him to eat more than a few bites of solid foods in about a month now and he spits up all day long.

Yes, spitting up is a sign of food intolerance. Generally due to the mom's food intolerance. We had the same situation, all spit up quit when I removed the offending foods from my diet while nursing. It was amazing!

Dairy, soy, wheat/gluten and corn are common food allergens/intolerances.

Ds3 got cradle cap and "itchy ears" (redness and he rubbed them but no infections before I eliminated) from dairy I was consuming. He also spits up if I eat soy.

If it seems like balance is still an issue, I'd try structural support to help with drainage from the ear. Chiropractic or cranial-sacral to help with that, maybe massage at home would be enough to improve drainage.
