Help! UTI

I'm pretty sure I have a UTI. Its burns toward the last part of emptying my bladder. And I have to go every few minutes, even if its only a few drops. I can't sleep because I never don't feel like I have to pee! This isn't normal pregnancy frequent urination. Its like ALL the time.

So, here's the problem. Antibiotics make me violently ill since becoming pregnant. I had a sinus infection and it literally almost killed me to finish off the script!

Anything other than cranberry juice? I want to knock it out, I mean, abx if I have to...but what can I do first?

Rather than cranberry juice OR antibiotics, my doctor would put me on cranberry pills with the specific instructions to drink so much water that it makes me uncomfortable (enough that my pee is always clear). Cranberry, for many women, can get rid of a UTI faster than antibiotics can anyways.

Google home remedies UTI, and similar titles, and you'll find a lot on how to treat them. Sometimes you can get them to go away on their own if you really work at it.

1. Cranberry extract tablets/capsules (or juice, but that gets expensive to do it in pure form). Take maximum dose (check the bottle for what that is), a couple of times a day.

2. Cut out all sugars and way back on simple carbs

3. TONS of water. Drink and drink and drink...flush that stuff out of your UT and bladder.

I would keep this up until the symptoms go away, then keep going on it for about a week afterward. After that, I would work on 1) staying hydrated (but you don't need to flood yourself like you do during treatment), 2) staying low-sugar, and taking a daily dose of cranberry extract.

D Mannose is wonderful for UTIs. It's a special sugar that doesn't enter the blood stream so doesn't effect blood sugar levels, but instead goes right to the bladder and causes the bad bacteria to attach to it and be flushed out.

Many people with chronic UTIs find it really helpful. I know it works for me.

Sorry, cranberry juice is your best bet- two bottles of unsweetened juice (I dilute it with water so it isn't so tart, but its still hard to get down) and also at least a gallon of water a day for a week. Its hard work, but better than the side effects of antibiotics.

If it were me, I wouldn't risk NOT taking antibiotics. I've had multiple UTIs (not while pregnant though), and one that I didn't treat right away spread to my kidneys. Very bad.

Nothing besides antibiotics ever worked for me. Is it ALL antibiotics you react to? They could use a different type than used for sinus infections.

cloudgazer has a good point. Given the risks of UTI during pregnancy, I would not wait all that long for the symptoms to go away or at least lessen dramatically. When I've done the natural treatment for a suspected UTI, I could usually tell that the symptoms lessened greatly within a day or two. If that's not happening for you, it's time to call your doctor and talk about options.

With cranberry pills and lots of water mine would stop being so bad after 2 days max too...

I'm not sure if that's what I have right now, but it feels like it might be a UTI. Does anyone know if it's safe to take AZO to help with symptoms?

imo follow doctor's/midwife's advice- i let a uti go untreated while on my honeymoon in costa rica and ended up in the hospital for three days with a very serious kidney infection-could've caused kidney failure or severe damage. i will never mess with a uti again!
