What to eat? Watched Food inc

I don't know what to buy at our local grocery store now. I won't eat the meat, hopefully I can find some stuff that's edible. Do you know any good veggie recipes, until I can find some organic, local grass fed meat.

Any advice on what labels to look out for at the grocery store would be great. Labels for good food.

There's plenty to eat, promise.

Stick mostly to real foods without labels and you are good to go. Think about it, fruits and veggies don't have labels, fresh bread doesn't have a label (mostly), same for good meat.

Why don't you join us in the Traditional Foods forum and you'll find a lot of support.

Oh, and if you post the state you're in, maybe we can point you in the right direction for sustainable meats.

Try your local farmers' markets and see if you can find a co-op around you. Look up your area on http://www.localharvest.org

Some of my omnivore family's favorite meatless/dairy free meals are bean green chili burritos, pizza with spinach mushroom olives peppers etc, and veggie stir fry with noodles. Also steamed summer squash, potatoes, baby carrots, peas, and broccoli, with cheese all over it, but you might wait for a good cheese source. Pastured eggs from a small farm may not be too hard to and get you can lean on that for protein (omelets make vegetables awesome).

I don't much care about organic and other labels but getting something local where the animals had enough space and a proper diet is great.

if you want to eat meat you feel has been raised, butchered and sold in an ethical, more humane way, i suggest finding a local farmers market and talking with the actual farmers about how thier animals live before they are made into pretty packages in the meat department. they arent any national brands of meat that i can think of, that you can trust to be pasture raised, grass-finished (not just grass fed, but finished on grass), etc. i have seen Niman Ranch at trader joes, they are known to be repudable. stop shopping at big box grocers, shop at small consumer owned coops if possible, second best i find is whole foods or the like.

http://www.eatwild.com/ this is a good resource too.
