Severe vomiting

We are on vacation and DS has had a day of severe vomiting. He was refusing to BF for over 6 hours and when he did eat a little he vomited it all up, plus bile. We went to a local urgent care and they said he was fine, just get fluids into him. He is much better now and is BFing again and keeping it down.

My question is- what could cause this? I know it could be a virus, but such a short duration? His first two teeth just popped through the gums over the past two days and we gave him tylenol right before the first vomit- could this cause it? I have also been dairy-free for 3.5 weeks to help with sleep problems (we have seen no change) and it is possible I could have consumed dairy by accident, but it would not have been much. Plus we have not actually challenged the dairy yet- would this cause a whole day of severe vomiting? He also started eating apples and applejuice this week-???

As you can tell I am racking my brain because none of the causes I could think of are very likely on their own. He has had no other symptoms- his silent reflux has been quiet for awhile and no skin/diaper issues or odd behavior. Anyone have similar experiences? Why does this always happen on vacation

Sounds more like he ate something that made him sick, since you didn't mention fever or any other symptoms. Glad he is doing better!!! Do you remember what he ate in the few hours before the vomitting?

We had something similar happen when our DS was 7.5 months. He got violently sick twice in one week, on a Monday and the following Saturday, both times an hour after dinner--both times we rushed to the ER for fluids because he quickly became so lethargic after vomiting 8-10 times in an hour, but with no fever or any other symptoms. The hospital ran a bunch of tests and found nothing. The only common denominator between those two nights was that he ate peas--which he had eaten many times before. Docs didn't think it could be the peas or food-related at all but we haven't given him any legumes since and he's been fine.

We also just got back from a cruise, during which he developed a scary respiratory infection and had to see the very expensive ship doc--I had visions of him needing to be air-lifted back to the mainland but luckily all he needed was some antibiotics--so I feel you on the nightmare of vacation sickness.

Could it have been the apples? Or did he get into anything else?
