Are my BBTs abnormally low?

I've heard a number of people say that low BBTs (below 97.4) could be cause for concern.

My BBT is influenced not just by progesterone but also by estrogen, and falls in 3 ranges:

1)Low estrogen/progesterone (first 10 days of cycle)- around 97.2-97.4

2)High Estrogen (the 4-5 days pre ovulation)- jumps all around the place, but
can go as low as 95.2(!!!)- to about 96.8. Anybody else experience such rollercoasters????!??!?!

3)Post ovulatory: 98+

Despite my low temps before 0, I have no reason to think anything is wrong with me, fertility wise. I'm 30, so relatively young, hormone tests are in normal
range, have regular ovulations with 2 day LH surges (and good estrogen detected by CBEFM), etc.

BUT, I've heard enough women say that temps below 97 are cause for concern. I have plenty of 96.6 and 7s, and one day or two it will go crazy low. Should I worry?

I have low temps, too. Very low 96s pre-O, low 97s post-O. Hardly ever see 98s. Mine jump around pre-O as well. (however, I also have a wiggle-worm co-sleeper, so it could be that... :P)

I worried about it when I started charting. Quite a bit, honestly. I brought my charts to my NP I had my thyroid checked. Twice. Totally normal.

I posted on the main fertility board about it (few months ago, sorry, can't find it...) The consensus was that it was just normal for some women.

I'd say, if you have no reason to believe it is a problem, don't turn it into one Maybe mention it to your hcp?

Best to you.

Orally. That probably does make things jump around a bit.

I wouldnt be concerned about low oral temps... mine were 96.5 or so pre-O and 97.2 or so post-O

When I started temping vaginally they went up to a very much more normal looking numbers, over 98 degrees for post-O

I do have a history of hypothyroidism and thus am checked for it regularly... never had a problem with my levels (TSH has been around 1.0-2.0 for two years now and that is the ideal range) so it has nothing to do with that... its just mouth temps are often considerably lower.

Since you are still over 98 for post-O even temping orally... I would say there really is NOTHING to worry about. If you want to make your temps not be so jumpy though, try vaginal temping. A stuffy nose, snoring, talking, drinking... all of those things can make your mouth temp drop while your vaginal temp would still be the same.

I've conceived easily 4 times....my pre O temps range from mid 96's to lower 97's....my post O temps range from mid 97's to upper 97's (rarely reaching the 98's, often only see after a BFP!)

I've never had any reason to think it's an issue either....and so far, knock on wood, it hasn't been!

My TSH is 2.74 and my mom developed hypothyroidism in her 40s (before that she went on to conceive 4 times with no problems). But still, I have to wonder.
Will throw the anti-thyroid antibodies test in because I'm a hypochondriac

My first IUI is planned for May...can't wait!
