Foods for TTC

Hi there:

Dh and I are just now TTC #2. I am 42 years old. We are omnivores, fitting more into the TF camp; though trying to be mostly plant-based as former/possibly future vegetarians. I guess that means we're pretty confused. But no foods are off-limits.

I am quite thin, with a BMI just at 20. My wonderful dr did say I might stand a better chance of conceiving if I put on a few pounds.

Anyhow, any suggestions on foods to eat lots of/avoid; both to increase chances of conception/minimize miscarriage risk, as well as increase health of me and babe? Is there a thread on this somewhere else? FWIW, I had an easy pregnancy and conceived easily with Dd at age 35.

i liked nina plancks book on fertility/pregnancy/baby nutrition-

my copys w/a friend now, but basically she recomends plenty of fish, eggs, whole dairy, grassfed meat, cod liver oil, whey, real veggies, etc. also enough fat is key, always serve fat, ie. butter or evoo w/cooked veggies as this aids in absorbing the minerals/vits from veggies.

Thanks. I'll check out the book. Keeping the fat up is a challenge.

Make your new motto: "Everything tastes better with butter" (or bacon, lard, etc.)

also here is a quote from an article by the wapf about dr. price and preconception diets

Again and again he found that tribal groups--especially those in Africa and the South Pacific-- fed special foods to young men and women before conception, to women during pregnancy and lactation, and to children during their growing years. When he tested these foods--things like liver, shellfish, organ meats and bright yellow butter--he found them to be extremely rich in the "fat-soluble activators"--vitamins A, D and the X Factor. Special soaked grain preparations of high mineral content--particularly millet and quinoa--were fed to lactating women to increase milk supply.
