This is a bit long and I appreciate any advice!!!
Ok now I am getting pretty distraught! My due date is today with my 2nd child-- baby should come in the next week I hope! My son is 2 yrs 9 mos and still nurses some nights. I think I got thrush back in November, but being pregnant I didn't take diflucan which has worked before for me. I did gentian violet and some nystatin til I ran out of that. Have been taking probiotics. The raynauds I usually get with thrush has stopped occuring, so I thought I might be in the clear, but...
I am not sure if I still have thrush. My nipples are kind of peely, and look red and shiny sometimes. It sometimes *kills* when my son latches on and I think I numb up in response so much that I can't tell if he is latching on properly. Sometimes when he is done I have cracks in the base of the nipple (where it joins the areola).
The midwife said the peeling could be my nipples healing from being torn by my son. His latch has gotten better and sometimes I don't even get cut, but it still looks like he takes off a layer of skin! Could the thrush (or something else? the pregnancy?) be weakening the skin?
Also, when the baby comes in a few days, the midwife suggested I could start diflucan then. I'm worried that I will still transmit the thrush to the baby. And I am worried about the pain! Should I nurse my toddler with a nipple shield to at least prevent him from making me sore?
Thanks!
