vision, glasses, eyes

I've been wanting to get a new pair of glasses because mine are rather delicate and about to be broken for good from baby grabbing them off my face an throwing them. I want to get some plastic glasses, but I don't know my prescription. My vision has changed a lot since becoming pregnant.

DD is 8 months old. Any one know if my eyes will continue to change throughout breastfeeding? Or if they reach some kind of static "breastfeeding vision." Don't know if I should bother going to the eye doctor to get a new prescription? Will new glasses last at least through breastfeeding? Does anyone know how I can find out my current prepregnancy prescription from my glasses just so I can get a backup pair?

i don't know if there is good, solid information out there about when your eyesight would return to what it was pre-pregnancy. it seems like it's effected during pregnancy and breastfeeding, but most people don't breastfeed for very long, so it's possible that at some point, post-partum, it goes back to what was normal for you, whether you're breastfeeding or not. i don't know. but even if you still have "milk vision" and your vision will continue to be effected throughout the duration of bf'ing, it may make sense to get a new prescription now - because you could be breastfeeding for a couple more years, and then maybe you'll be pregnant again . . . so how long are you going to wait, lol? besides, if your pre-preg glasses have been working fine for your pregnant/bf eyes, then presumably bf'ing glasses should work fine even as your vision begins to go back to what it previously was.

i don't know if they can get your prescription from your current glasses. if you want to stick with that prescription, you should be able to find out what it was by contacting the place where you got the glasses, even if you don't want to go back there for your new ones.

they should be able to get your prescription from your current glasses (I've seen them do this at Wal-mart - the vision center - , and if it can be done there . . .it can be done at a doctor's office I should think)

I didn't realize my vision would still be different b/c I'm breastfeeding. my contacts work fine both during pregnancy and now PP, but my glasses totally don't!

I'd never heard of vision being different from breastfeeding... just pregnancy. I broke my glasses on the way home from delivering DD2 and intentionally waited 6 weeks to go get a new prescription (mine was several years old and I wanted to update it anyway.) Of course, adjusting to two kids and DH working a lot of overtime and OOT meant it ended up being several months before I actually got to the eye doctor. (When you go, make sure they know you're breastfeeding... they shouldn't dilate your eyes.)
