Baby biting - need help, please!

Hi all

Here's a bit of backstory - DS (6 months) was sick Saturday-Monday, but mostly seems to be better today. I've also been really sick since Sunday.

On Sunday night, and all through Monday, and now today, everytime I try to nurse DS he bites me really hard. I've tried pushing it (to make him let go), saying "Ouch!" and stopping the nursing session. I browsed through this forum, and that seems to be what everyone recommends.

My problem is that he's doing it almost every time he nurses, usually right off the bat. I've been trying to go back a few minutes later to try again, but he still bites. I'm worried that he's hungry, but I really can't bear to have my nipples bit. When he was born, we had 6 weeks of incredibly painful nursing, and I don't know if I can handle more of it!

He's got two teeth, but they've both been there for a few weeks, so I don't think he's discomfort from teething (it doesn't look like any new ones are sprouting).

What to do? I have some pumped milk thawing in the fridge in case it comes to that, but all I really want to do is nurse my baby.

Is it because I'm sick? I haven't been taking any medications that would affect my milk supply, just vitamins (Emergen-C).

Also, I should add that the few times he's bitten me, but I've tried to keep nursing, he continues to bite me. It's not that he bites me, but then nurses happily. He just bites, bites, bites!

When you say 'pushing' do you mean pushing his face into your breast? Thats what I recommend. Its what worked with DS1 (when unlatching him, yelling "no!" and putting him down, etc did not)... DS2 is just starting to get teeth so we're not quite there yet. I think what I did was push him into my breast untill he let go, then I'd let him try to nurse again, rinse and repeat. He only bit me for a couple days as I recall before he got the message that this wasn't fun. He'd occasionall bite down for the next year or two, but I'd just do the same - push him into the breast till he let go and he'd remember that, hey, thats not fun!

Good luck!!

That is what I meant, yeah. Nothing.

I don't think it's a supply issue... I just managed to hand pump 1 1/2 oz milk in about 10 minutes.

I tried giving him a bottle, but he wouldn't take it. He wouldn't take a cup either, or anything, so I tried putting him back on the breast (thinking maybe he was so hungry that he'd nurse), but nope. He didn't even latch on, he just bit me right off the bat.
