Help! I have to decide RIGHT NOW!

My MIL has decided to bless us with our big baby stash, but she's calling me back in a couple of hours and wants to order then while we're both on the phone.

So quick! Help me review my dream stash before she calls back!

6 babykicks os
3 Little Beetle os wool covers (pricey, might not get these)
6 Happy Heiny os dipes
3 fuzzibunz os
3 bumgenius os
6 disana tie-on nappies

So that would be 12 pocket dipes, 12 dipes that need covers, 3 wool wrap covers, leaving me to crochet soakers for the disanas (coz they can't use regular covers, right?).

I don't mind filling this in later with more covers or maybe a handful of flips.

We also have 24 nb pfs and 24 flats that I ordered for the nb stage (plus a handful of nb proraps). So I think that with the flats and using the pfs as inserts, we should be good with the os dipes above, what do you think?

The ones I'm not so sure about are the disanas (because the covers issue); should I scratch those in favor of more babykicks?

Okay, feedback, please! STAT! I have to be lined out before she calls me back

SKIP THE DISANAS. Useless, fiddly, annoying. They don't even dry that fast.

Might want some PUL covers, wool is nice but I find it impractical for daytime use. 6 covers for the newborn stage is about right, bummis, thirsties, motherease rikkis, imse vimse, nikkys all work well over prefolds/flats.

i would suggest more of this and less of the others ... having fewer diaper types makes my life simpler with enough pockets, you wont need tie dipes or wooll covers. just my opinion.

I was going to suggest a couple of Thirsties Duo Wraps, too. it might help to have just 2 sizes (size 1 is birth to 18 lbs, and size 2 is 18-40 or something ridiculous like that!) even if you just got 2 of each size, you'd have something good for a diaper bag back-up and for visitors who dont know about wool.

what a blessing your MIL is!!! I'd scrap the disanas, too, but only bc I'm intimidated by them. I'd definitely go for more OS Pockets if I had my choice

Yes, I am so grateful!

She ended up ordering us 12 bumgenius and 6 happy heinys. 18 is a pretty good base for our stash since we have the flats to fall back on as well. Whew! What a load off my mind.

I still like the babykicks and the lil beetle covers, but maybe dp and I can fill in with those later if our stash needs rounding out.

Thanks for the feedback, ladies! When she said, "do you just want to get 12 of the bumgenius?" I was just "yes, please, thank you!"

Don't look a gift diaper in the mouth, right, lol!

We still gotta get some snappies and a couple more covers for our newborn dipes, but it feels pretty good to just have a big chunk of this taken care of.

Actually, I love the Disanas. But, they don't stand alone - you need something to stuff inside them.

And I never put a cover over them - shorties/longies are the only covers that work, but it takes a lot for the outside to feel wet - by which time it needs changing, so that's what we do.

Okay, thanks for this info! I will keep that in mind. I was thinking the Disanas would be great for around the house, esp. if you don't always need a cover. We will have our nb prefolds leftover after the nb stage, and I was planning on using those for stuffers, too, so it sounds like we'd just need the disana tie-ons.

Hmmm, lots to think about for rounding out the old stash! But at least we have a good solid base of user-friendly pocket diapers and flats to start out with!

**eta, dang, what a generous lady, she ended up ordering us a birthing book, a super baby food book, the snappis, and a sleepy wrap! I am a little overwhelmed coz I'm not used to accepting help from people. I'm feeling a thank-you gift coming on!**

Your thank you "gift" is that (I'm assuming) sweet first grandchild! Just send her a card, she'll be happy.

I may also suggest finding some fitteds for newborns. Like a kissaluvs. I find that the one sizes didn't fit my baby (and he was a big boy) very well right at first, so we needed something smaller. Plus it has the snap down for umbilical cord. Depending on your baby's size, you can wear them for several months. DS1 wore them for 5-6 months and only had to come out of them b/c of rise issues. DS2 is already out of them at 3 months. They need a PUL cover.
