Staem clener thoughts and reccomendations

Does anyone have any experience with buying a steam cleaner?

I was saying to my dh that we need to get our sofa cleaned. I don't want to replace it, it's a good quality sofa, but needs recovering. I'm just waiting till the kids are a bit older, and we have fewer dogs.

He suggested maybe given the dogs, cats, and kids, we should buy a steam cleaner. Possibly one of those small ones.

I don't know anyone that has one - do they work? Are the small ones effective? Is the quality good?

It's full size (so it may not be exactly what you're looking for, but just in case) and really gets a workout around our house... light-colored carpet, 2 kiddos, hubby that sometimes forgets to take his grubby shoes off, etc... It's easy to use and the attachments are great. I have been using the attachments a lot lately. It has an onboard heater and I use it w/vinegar.

I think that's the one we have too! I love having a steam cleaner. It's great for getting spots out of the carpet and sofa...also well worth it's weight in gold for cleaning up potty accidents and stomach bug messes

That's the one we have, too (should have bought it from amazon, b/c we paid the full $300)... Worth the money, though, and we haven't even used any of the soap/chemicals that came with it. We have white carpet and steam alone does the job. I wouldn't recommend a cheaper one b/c you want a built-in heater for the water, though. We have leather couches (which I do recommend with kids when you replace yours) so we don't steam clean them, but I bet the stair attachment would work well for that.

We have that same one as well!! I LOVE it!! So easy to use and the attachments are great. I use it on everything

I have this http://www.amazon.com/Hoover-SteamVa...ref=pd_sbs_k_6 I was looking into getting a smaller one, but none of the reviews really compared to a full size. I am love with this thing! I cleaned my carpet and sofa right away when I got it with amazing results. Never tried any other ones though. I assume that they are comparable, but this one seemed to be the most inexpensive, yet effective steam cleaner.
