How to protect goats from dogs?

Our neighbor has a border collie pup that comes into our fence and runs the goats! One of who is pregnant! Is there some type of animal I can get to protect and watch over the goats? Help! I have talked to them a number of times but we live in a rural area but have 5 acres.

Wow, imagine that poor pup trying to control that urge without help from his people. And your poor goats.

Donkeys are good protectors. I have heard llamas are, too, but I don't know. I have seen big shepherd dogs that mostly lie around being intimidating. Like the Akbash, Anatolian, Great Pyrenees. Trouble is, they might just jump the fence and go for the puppy.

Llamas, donkeys or a guardian dog. Or a better fence. Or a pen/chain for the dog. Those are your basic options. We have a maremma sheep dog that runs with our goats...

Empty rounds, or a pellet gun. Or one of those pop guns. Firecrackers. Somethign noisy every time. Other than that, an LGD or a better fence.

If the owners cannot keep the dog out of your property call a local dog warden or the town. Are their leash laws in your area? Find out what you can legally do.

Build a better fence.

def improve the fence, whatever else you decide to do, because if the pup can get in, the wee goat kids will be able to get out, won`t they? and bad things may happen if they decide to explore the other side of the fence while the increasingly large and playful pup is on the other side!

My brother's dog (a labX) got into a field and did this to sheep ONE time. The farmer shot him (and i'm in the UK!). I'm not recommending it, but at the same time you could quite legitimately have STRONG words with your neighbours about this!

In most areas, it is perfectly legal to do the three S's (shoot, shovel, shut up). But that's not always the greatest for neighborly relations

I would highly recommend (if you have the space and time and inclination) getting a donkey. Even the miniature donkeys make excellent guardians. And I would bet that pup wouldn't come over to visit ever again.

Our fence is actually pretty good, she will dig under it to get it.. We have not had our goats get out or anything. They have kept her away after our last strict words with them, hopefully it will last! But thanks for the advice everyone!!
