My DH has borderline high blood pressure and has not been taking medication for it. He is overweight and is working on that with his diet and exercise. He recently started drinking fresh grapefruit juice (known for affecting BP, cholesterol and weight) and since he's been complaining of feeling a bit off- even occasionally dizzy, like his head is pounding, vision swimming, etc.
After talking it through I thought maybe since he was drinking it on an empty stomach it could be dropping his BP enough to cause an effect. I wondered if it was maybe due to some detoxing too? He said he thought it was worst about 1/2 hour after drinking. He tried drinking about two ounces tonight after supper (full stomach) to see if it caused his symptoms to flare up and it dropped his BP 10 points immediately but didn't cause any other issues. He has been drinking about 4 oz though, and often it's between meals.
Does it seem reasonable that the grapefruit juice is what's causing this? What does this mean exactly? Should he quit drinking it all together? He wants his BP to go down, but obviously doesn't want it to fluctuate so much all at once. I do think it is helping him begin to lose weight too.
