Back Pain Left Side

Right now I'm having somewhat sharp pains in my back like a quarter of the way down on the left side. I'm calling the dr's office first thing in the morning when they open. From what I've read online it seems to be too high to be a kidney infection, but I was told pain in my mid back was too high to be a kidney infection when I was pregnant with my 6 year old.... surprise surprise it was a kidney infection. The bits I've found say it could be an ectopic pregnancy, but would you be able to hear the baby's heartbeat at about 11.5 weeks estimated if it was ectopic??? Pulled muscle?? Any ideas?

A quarter of the way down from what? Your shoulder? so the pain is right under you shoulderblade? my guess would be pulled muscle...

11.5 weeks seems awefully late to just be starting eptopic symptoms....
A kidney infection seems unlikely with the pain that high, BUT if you have had similar symptoms before with a kidney infection, that makes a difference.
