For the last 2 months or more, DD has had redness and some discharge in her vagina/anus area. This problem seems to come and go. When the redness is there, sometimes it seems to hurt her and other times, she doesn't seem to care. I took her to the doctor twice (once a few weeks ago and once a few weeks before that) and she was first determined to have a UTI and then determined to have "vaginitis" (whatever that is) along with yeast infections. Twice she was put on antibiotics, an anti-yeast oral medicine, and an athlete's foot cream to rub on the outside. The doctors said that her problems are likely due to improper wiping. So I've been trying to be there to wipe her more often and talk to her about wiping front to back. I have given her baking soda baths. I have been giving her Primadophilus from Whole Foods to try to combat the negative effects of the antibiotics. Five days ago, I decided to stop giving her refined sugar and juice. Well, I've given her a few fairly low sugar cookies over this amount of time but usually she eats a lot more sweets. Today her areas looked better--not as bright red and oozy and not so much on the anus. But this yeast thing has appeared to go away before and it just comes back.

Has anyone dealt with child yeast infections over such a long period? Are there any other things I should do? On another forum, someone suggested cutting out dairy. I haven't started this yet because she eats cereal/cheese a lot and drinks milk a lot and it would really get to her. Plus, I can't think of a good way to substitute something else for all the dairy she eats. Someone also suggested washing underwear and towels with hot water and vinegar and I have started that.
