spitting up - need advice please!

Our son will be 6 months old in a few days. He is EBF (we did try a little bit of mashed banana a couple of times, but he really wasn't that interested, so I'll try again in a few weeks). A coupl of weeks or so ago, I have noticed an increase in him spitting up. Prior to this he might spit up once a day or once every other day. Now he does it 3 or so plus times a day to the point where one or both of our clothes need to be changed. I can't think of any changes in my diet to cause this. I do notice he is much more gassy (will burp frequently when in the MT for example).
Here are my questions -
Is it possible for him to develop a food sensitivity to something that he wasn't sensitiv to prior? (like dairy)
Should I start to eliminate things from my diet, should dairy be first? How long do I do that to see if it has an effect? If eliminating dairy doesn't do it, then what next? (Sorry to sound dense, just have not dealt with this before!)
Could it be reflux, not related to any food sensitivity? How do I know if that's the case?
Thanks for any advice you can give! I'm sure there are a zillion threads on here about this issue, I just don't have time right now to research them! He has his 6 month check up in a couple weeks, so I was planning to discuss it then, but thought I could get some good feedback here first.
thanks!

Honestly? If he's happy and growing, I probably wouldn't worry about it one bit. I certainly wouldn't go jumping into a big elimination diet on the basis of some spit up. Two of my three were frequent spitters, and the amount of spitting up wasn't always the same, and was sometimes as much as twice with every feeding, and it was all fine.

I would look into reflux if he seems to be in pain, or if he's not gaining weight at a pace that's normal for him.

I second not jumping to the allergy conclusion, not w/o more symptoms. My 4 month old is a frequent spit-uper, worse lately because she is nursing more than before, since deciding to give up the pacie. Now she gets too full and just spits up more.

thank you! He has seemed uncomfortable a lot lately when eating (making noise, pulling off frequently, squirming). I try to burp him more, but it's not really helping. Like right now he is eating and crying at the same time, I feel so bad for him! Are those signs of reflux? If so, what can I do to help him feel better?

Our 7 month DD started spitting up more this past weekend too, but she is eating solids (purees). I'm actually wondering if it could be related to teething, possibly the extra saliva is irritating to her stomach? It can cause drool rash and diaper rash, so I would imagine it could irritate her stomach to...

From my experience with DS (now 3 years old), increased spitting up can be related to teething. After his initial newborn spitting up with each feeding phase subsided & he was only usually spitting up every couple of days, each new tooth caused him to spit up a few times day for 1-2 weeks.

Compare this to DD (2 months old) who spits up 5+ times after every feeding (yes, 30-40 times per day!). She is not gaining weight very well & quite irritable. Her ped. just perscribed her meds for reflux.

In the absence of other symptoms, I'm not sure I'd worry about your DS's increased spitting up just yet.

4JMJ: My little guy seems to get irritated like that if he's tired, or if my milk is coming out too fast.

Thanks everyone for your replies! I guess I'll try not to worry too much about it, unless there's concern with his weight at his checkup or if it gets worse...
