To Take or Not to Take, That is the Question...

Sooooo, I've had a fever, cough and all that comes along with that for the past 4 days. I went into the doc today and he ruled out strep and bronchitis and gave me some Amoxicillin to take for the next 1.5wks. I'm 8dpo and told him as much, he knows we've been trying for just shy of a year and seemed almost hesitant to prescribe it. I looked it up and its a schedule B, so ok, but not 100% ok...so do I take it?

He made sure to tell me not to take any decongestants or anything besides some hot tea with honey to help the sore throat...I guess I'm hesitant to take it because he seemed really hesitant to prescribe it.

Opinions?

Oh my... I blame my first miscarriage on Azithromycin. And I took Amoxicillin very early with my second miscarriage, like before I could test to see if I was pregnant...

I don't know... I'm really sorry you even have to think about this.

if it's schedule b, personally, if i needed to take it, i would take it and not worry. what i would question is why is he prescribing an antibiotic if it's not strep or bronchitis, unless he thinks it's pneumonia and you just declined an xray due to the ttc thang. if it's viral, antibiotics are not going to help.

Totally agree with this. What exactly does he think he is treating? If I were you I'd skip the antibiotics at least for the next few days until you can test. i am a bit of a freak about this kind of thing, though. But you'll probably find you'll get better on your own anyhow.

Ive been on amoxicillin the past week due to the worst sinus infection I have ever had and an ear infection to boot. My doctor said its the only one she trusts to give to pregnant women or women who are trying to get pregnant.

It was also the only thing I was ever prescribed for my constant infections with DD (when pregnant, anything on my body that CAN get infected tends to)

See, that's what I was wondering as well. He didn't offer an xray or anything. My ears are a bit tender and throat is a bit sore and sinuses congested, but he even commented that it wasn't too bad...

No I totally know where you are coming from hun! That's totally why I asked, I'm freaky about it too. My hubby tried to give me a decongestent with pseudoephedrine in it and I laid into him for it

Oh no! I hope you feel better hun s: Its crappy being sick in general, but REALLY crappy to be pregnant and sick! I've had it while pregnant, but usually later on in the process!

Well guys I think I may see how things go the next few days and decide from there. I'm on spring break right now so its not really effecting school (although my break is down the tubes ) I think I'm going to call the doctor again too and discuss this with him...when I was there I was pretty cloudy in the head (and still am : ) I wanna see if there was a specific reason why he prescribed it or if it was just a procedural thing..

When you call, ask about benedryl as well... my doctor gave me a prescription for that as well (its the OTC stuff, just its free if she prescribes it rather than spending 5 bucks on it lol) mostly to help keep my sinuses and ears open, with specific directions to take it before I get on the planes this weekend or I will be in a LOT of pain. But before she prescribed it she said it would be fine because I am second trimester... Im not sure if that means its not safe in first or what.

And thank you, for the most part it is gone, my ear is still plugged with ringing but otherwise I am doing great... even my morning sickness is starting to go away (add morning sickness and horrible sinus infection with drainage and you get the most disgusting four days I have ever spent)

I think you are probably best to try fighting it yourself first... also another thing she suggested is 2000mg Vitamin C each day (over 3000 can be bad for pregnancy and 2000 is not an amount you want to take when not sick an want to get pregnant/are pregnant but in that situation being sick it is a beneficial amount... I take 1000 daily otherwise at my midwifes advice to avoid PROM) and DO NOT just lay on the couch... oddly she was right, once I got active I did start feeling a lot better.

I'm glad you're able to wait. I hate the thought of others being in my position of "what if".
