My son no longer likes to be cradled while nursing. He doesn't like football hold, nor sitting up in my lap to nurse. I find he only will nurse lying down with me or upright in a carrier.
4 months was the worst for us! DD would also only nurse lying down or upright in the mei tai. It got to the point where she would only nurse lying on her left side, in a dark room, with white noise. Good thing she was my first!
She grew out of it eventually...maybe around 7 months? I kept offering cradle nursing positions when I remembered to, and eventually she accepted. Now she'll breastfeed in any position at all. Hang in there!
Thank you so much GoGoGirl, that gives me some encouragement!
I did get him to feed this morning for a couple of minutes while holding him but he nurses much better and easier in the other ways.
Oh I wanted to mention too that this was the time when nursing necklaces really helped. I made a few myself by tying some little toys to shoelaces. I let DD play with them while trying to nurse her in the cradle hold. It sometimes bought me a few minutes of nursing--enough to tide her over if we were in public and I didn't feel like laying down on the floor to nurse her.
Great idea! Thankfully, he seems to be nursing while cradled once again. I think that just working on it more at home, instead of automatically lying down to nurse, helped us.
I will make a necklace though, and keep it in the diaper bag, in case it's needed.
