Good source for sweet potatoes?

Thread Starter
I thought my local nursery would carry these but they don't. I need a good source for sweet potato slips. I was planning on growing my own slips but I can't find any potatoes meant for that purpose and I can't even find any organic sweet potatoes in the grocery store, they're all yams which take a year to grow and will not work in zone 5 where I am. So, any suggestions?

I have never bought them, but read about people liking them from sandhill preservation and seeds of change(might have been Seed savers). I would check out postings at daves garden watchdog, and see what people say about the stock they get from various places.

sweet potatoes are (i think) the very latest thing to plant, and so maybe that's why you don't see them yet. Way down here on the gulf coast (where we have peppers and tomatoes already in the ground), i can't even buy them until like late may. and then places like lowe's and wal-mart will have them in 6 0r 9 packs. and then you can save your own for slips for subsequent years
