We had this pattern where she'd ask for a drink of water ("cup") when she had to pee. Once I caught onto that, I started holding her over the sink while giving her the water (when the timing was also appropriate, or she asked after popping on and off during nursing). Then, as she started being aware of needing to poop, I'd talk to her about how she probably needed to pee and that she should sit on the potty when I gave her the water.
So tonight, she asked for the potty and then asked for water! I got her settled onto the potty (and she peed) and brought her some water. And she only peed!!!
