Hi all, I'm after a bit of advice about my almost 10-month old daughter, and our breastfeeding relationship. Please excuse the essay!
She has had a dummy (thats what we call paci's on this side of the world) since about 6weeks of age to help with silent reflux. Problem is - she has become VERY attached to it. I try to limit it to bedtime and car trips only, but lately she has been ill and its been the only way to soothe her (combined with cuddles) and has had it more often.
I think because of this we have now reached a point where often, in the evening when she's really tired, she'll refuse to breastfeed, and just want her dummy to fall asleep with. this sometimes happens during the day as well.
She doesn't eat much solids, but is slowly increasing the amount.
I guess I'm worried that, over time, she'll refuse the breast more and more in favour of the paci, and increase her solids to make up for it, and before you know it - BAM - she would have weaned. And I *really* want to continue b/f until at least 2yrs, especially as she has quite a severe dairy allergy (has been hospitalized for accidentally eating cheese)
She has no other liquids to drink apart from water from a cup.
I know the answer is to get rid of the dummy, but I don't really know how to do this apart from cold turkey, which would be incredibly rough on her (and us). I have read the "no cry sleep solution" and tried the 'pantley pull off" to wean her off gently, but she sleeps on her stomach so its impossible to take the dummy out without kind of rolling her over a little, which wakes her up.
any insights/advice would be much appreciated

. He would pull-off from the breast and put the paci in as he was going to sleep. He ate no solids until 13 months (had a texture adversion). He went on to wean at 25 months from the breast (I was pregnant and dried up), but kept the pacies until almost four, but only at night.
