Energy of things, houses, places?..

I was thinking about it the other day.

I was watching a special on Blood Diamonds, and couldn't help but think that no ring made with such a thing can bring happiness to the couple. Could it have even a minor influence on high divorce rates?

We are shopping for a house, and everyone tells us good time to buy, and foreclosures are great way to invest. But it doesn't sit well with me. I'd rather pay a fair price for a house where people lived happily than make money on someone misfortunes, yk? DP pokes fun at me for this kind of talk, but respects my opinion enough not to insist on looking at foreclosures.

I think this goes to many things in life - what we see carries a certain imprint, and I am trying to be careful about energies I bring into my life.

Does anyone think the same? (I'd assume no one will tell me I'm crazy since this is Spirituality forum )

places and things definitely have their own energy, and they can take on the energy of the people in/around/using/wearing them. so i think it's possible that an energy of pain and violence could linger, in the case of diamonds, and effect the wearer, but the stone would have its own energy and would also carry the intention of the one giving it, right?

we bought a house at fair market value from a couple with two children. however, at closing, we realized that there was a nasty dynamic between the couple. we did a lot to try to eradicate that from the house before we moved in. also keep in mind that foreclosure doesn't necessarily mean people were miserable in the home, and foreclosures lower the prices of all homes on the market - so you don't have to buy a foreclosure to get a good deal.

maybe the current prices are fair. 5-10 years ago they were inflated and the bubble burst.

eta: a year or so ago, you pulled a card or two for me, and it was very revealing. i decided to get a deck and i really love it, but my dh claims the cards have a negative energy that makes him physically feel bad. grr.

Yes, yes, I believe this! The first house DH and I lived in had a really negative energy. I knew of two previous tenants and they both had a lot of problems (violent arguments and drug abuse) and when we lived there we just didn't get along very well. If I had to stay there by myself I would be kinda creeped out the whole time. And I wouldn't dare go down to the basement by myself. My brother lives there now and he broke up with his long-time live in girlfriend and has had several fights with friends to the point of having the cops called. Anyway, I want to tell him "It's the house" but, he will just think I'm crazy.

I agree, however, I also think that you can change the energy of things. So like a house with a lot of strife, or a blood diamond might not be a great start to things, but you can definitely change the energy, imo.

Sage smoke works well, salt works well, moonlight works well. I'm a fan of salting the heck out of a place. It works wonders. I generally go through the entire place, salting all the openings (doors, windows, fireplaces) in a line across them, and then salting the room liberally, through the whole apartment/place. It vacumes up afterwards, and really changes the energy. Small objects, I'll dip in either dry salt, or salt water, depending on what they are and which would be less harmful. (If both would be, I'd try sage smoke to start. It's very cleansing as well.)

Whether you should buy them as a matter of ethics is of course up to you (though to a certain extent, I feel that the only non-blood diamond options are antiques, because it's just so uncertain the "ethical" diamonds out there.) The energy can be changed, but it might take a lot of work (if it's really horrible, it might take more than just salting/smudgeing

Yes, things have their own energy; we call it "enos".

Houses also tend to repeat histories, but like the pp mentioned, as long as you're aware of it you can do things to change the history. Sometimes it'd be way too strong (like if murder happened or some great huge tragedy like that) but generally if the energy is not totally... I want to say, for the lack of a better word, "evil" you can do things to help the situation.

I also believe in feng shui so sometimes it helps to rethink in terms of that. There are things you can change (landscaping, etc.) or balance out, but sometimes you can't. For example, we live on a mountainside and near us is a house which is perched on stilts into the mountainside. It must have great views, and it is pretty much a mansion - but it keeps changing owners. I would think that the wealth is flowing away and there is no stability in that house. How could there be, when there is LITERALLY no ground underneath half of it??
