Banning is merely an illusion, albeit a very persistent one.

Are you purposely TTC? I personally would wait a few months (or better yet - a year) to let my body heal and to give the baby as much breastmilk as possible.
You should chart your morning temperatures to see if you're even fertile yet. Get the book Taking Charge of Your Fertility - it tells you everything you need to know about charting.

Any bleeding before the 56th day postpartum is considered a PP bleed, not AF. It's unlikely you're fertile yet, although certainly not impossible.
If you did get pregnant and didn't know the Ov date (which happens all the time to people who get pregnant not TTCing!) they would do an early ultrasound to determine the DD.

Yup...early ultrasounds would do the trick.
I tend to "need" an early u/s myself, for O'ing late. Because going by LMP will give me a significantly earlier due date that should be...and well, I don't want that! And it seems like most doctors don't know which patients know their bodies well enough to know when O is and which patients think they know...so, an early u/s puts that discussion to rest of, "I know I didn't O until x date!"
Anyway, yup, early u/s!
