Why do I want to eat only the egg yolk?

Ever since I was a teen I have preferred to eat only the yolk of eggs and not the whites. Sometimes I eat the whole egg because I feel terrible wasting the white because it is a great source of protein but my body is telling me not to eat it. Why do you think this is?

i give my whites and my babys to our dog most of the fat soluable vitamins are in the yolk, the white is basically only protien. i dont like the whites, so i just eat 2-3 yolks for breakfast.

Good, then I don't have to feel so guilty about only wanting to eat the yolk! I wonder if my cat would eat egg whites...

I give raw egg to my dog sometimes. I would give it raw if you're giving it to a cat or dog, since both do better on raw food.

My dd1 has always only liked the whites. Growing up, I'd eat the whole thing, but my brothers would only eat the whites, so I got a lot of extra yolks.

I wonder if it's a taste preference or an actual nutrient craving?

The only way I like yolks is if they are liquidy--so over easy eggs, soft boiled eggs, etc. I like the whites no matter what--actually, I take that back, I can only eat the whites if they are totally solid.

Argh, now I want a soft-boiled egg and some toast! Alas, I will have to wait 6 more months for that pleasure. Enjoy one for me!

If you trust where your eggs are coming from, then I don't see anything wrong with it. There is hardly any risk of becoming sick from eating raw eggs, much less a soft cooked one. Maybe it's because I have such access to good pastured eggs that I feel this way, but I'm pretty sure there is plenty of research that proves this to be true. Anyone?

With hard boiled, I prefer the white over the yolk, but I eat the whole thing anyway. Funny how we do that, huh?

also a soft boiled egg is not raw, the yolk is wet but not the white.

Because I don't have the money for pastured, free range eggs. And I do NOT trust grocery store eggs that aren't fully cooked while pregnant. Honestly, I think the only way I'd trust it while pregnant is if I had my own chickens.

Oh, I didn't notice you were in Cali. I have heard that eggs are SUPER expensive out there. I bought 4 dozen today for $5.98, they were bogo at the farm I get my meat and dairy from. I couldn't afford eggs out in Cali either. On the other hand, I spent $25.16 for 2 gallons of milk, $6.29 for a pint of heavy cream, $5.49 for a quart of half and half, and $5.91 for just over 2lbs of butter. I did get an $8 credit applied to that for returning bottles (there is a $2 deposit on each bottle, so as long as ya return them, it's not so bad.) So that's $42.85 for a family of 6 for dairy for a week. If I return all the bottles it would be $30.85 per week, which is better, but compared to conventional prices, it sure is a lot more.
