Once Upon a Potty and other PL books

DS is showing some interest in ditching the diapers, and since he's so into stories right now, I'd like to encourage him that way. I've looked at some books, such as Once Upon a Potty, but I'd prefer to call his penis a penis, not a "pee-pee." I know I could just say the real word when it comes up, but I wondered if anyone has found an effective book hat uses the real names of kids' body parts, not wiener, ding-dong, ta-ta, winky, dingle, junior, man root... (okay, you get the idea...)

Thanks!

Curious too. I say pee-pee for urine and use penis for, well, his penis. I admit that sometimes I use winky just for the giggle factor.

I have a potty book somewhere. I'll have to look for it. I think it simply sidesteps naming the penis though...

yeah, we could never find a book that uses the term 'vulva' or anything close to it. rather there's a lot of pee-pees and wee-wees and hoo-has or whatever. we just teach her the correct names, and change them when we read the book.

We have several potty books and love them all- ds really likes hearing the stories and we keep a basket of them in the bathroom. None of them except Once Upon A Potty really even name body parts, just what's coming out. One that we're especially liking right now is called Pirate Potty- more of an adventure story. It comes with a little cut out pirate hat and stickers if you want to use that as incentive or anything. (There's a corresponding one designed for girls as well, I think it's probably Princess Potty)

We are just getting started, so we only have one book but it's great! "Have you seen my potty?" It's not a how-to, it's a story about a girl looking for her potty which was snatched away by farm animals who are all loving the advantages of pooping in a pot instead of on the ground :-P My daughter is 19 months and loves identifying all the animals. There's no body part discussion, just a fun story about how great pottys are to have around when you need to go. Pee and Poo are mentioned, as in "I need to...!" Very good illustrations too.

I'm looking for more books so I'm interested to see what else is suggested...

My daughter absolutely loves "Have you seen my potty?" She'll ask me to read it whenever she's on the potty. It is silly and fun to read. It seems to relax her enough (and is long enough) for her to get her job done. She is about 28 months.

A friend gave us Once Upon a Potty, and I hate it due to the nicknames for the body parts. Is there really no book that uses real names?

ds loves "Once upon a potty" so I just say "a penis for peeing with, giving you pleasure, giving your partner pleasure when you grow up, and ensuring the survival of the species" the first time he asks me to read it and "a penis for peeing and doing other amazing things" the next hundred times. I also think the grandmother is WAY out of line buying the potty and wrapping it up as a present and I make no secret of this fact.

It's still a cute book. Our favourite part is "Was it a hat? No, it wasn't a hat. Was it a bowl for the cat?...."

Another one we like is "Tinkle tinkle little tot" by Bruce Lansky.

If anyone knows a book that uses real names, either for pottying or sex ed/safety ed I would definitely buy it.

This is not a potty book but a sex ed book. For the record I've never read it/seen it, but have heard it recommended
"It's so Amazing."

I just ordered this Potty Book by Dr. Sears, we'll see how it is. You Can Go Potty

I figured for 1 cent plus shipping I didn't have much to lose
