Probiotics...still useable??

I bought some probiotics on Tuesday. However, things were hairy around here, and I forgot to put them in the fridge. I just remembered this morning.

How much will having sat around at room temperature for two days affect them? It was pretty cool, but the house got quite warm yesterday.

I'm really annoyed at myself. Those things aren't cheap, and I can't afford another bottle right now. Grrrr.

The worst that will happen is that they will be less potent - fewer live bacteria. If this is a brand you've been using all along - and you know the effects of taking it vs not taking it - then take it. If you get the desired effect, fine. If not, then you know the integrity of the bacteria was compromised.

Thanks. I thought that was probably the case, but wanted to double-check.

These ones definitely help, so I'll try them. I've been having a rough time with sugar cravings lately. There's a huge psychological component, but I find when I've reached a certain point, and have taken in way too much, probiotics help me kick the habit. (Of course, I tend to have reached a certain point of determination when I actually buy the probiotics, so maybe it's the placebo effect?)

Eh - who cares if it's a placebo effect or if there is another mechanism at work there. It works, right?

I'm going to start taking a(n old) probiotic that DH wanted to toss the other day while he was cleaning the fridge. I might as well use it up, and if it helps with sugar craving, all the better!

Exactly. If it will get me off sugar again (I always go back to sugar when I'm overtired...like when I have an under-one in the house), it's more than worth it, no matter how it works.
