Is Parsley ok or not?

Thread Starter
I have been craving Tabbouleh for weeks and now I'm eating a wonderful bowlful but something in my head is reminding me somewhere in my past 4 pregnancies someone told me to avoid it because of the parsley seed properties of uterine stimulation.

Well anyway it's been my craving so I'm thinking maybe in culinary amounts it's okay but if you know Lebanese tabbouleh it's chock full of parsley - I used the Italian flat leaf kind since it's less bitter and in my mind therefore containing less of the stimulating oils ---

So give me your opinions!

I've only ever heard it will dry up milk supply. I have never heard it is dangerous during preg.

My thought is... because it CAN stimulate (after all, if you want to induce a period you drink parsley tea... and some women use parsley to speed up a missed miscarriage) I wouldn't risk it at all, even if I were craving it.

I've successfully brought on late periods with parsley tea that I made loose leaf with the dried stuff from the spice aisle at the store.... but it took a LOT of parsley steeped for a long time to do it. I had a spoonful here and there of Tabbouleh (store bought) in the 1st Tri with no problems... so I would just go easy on it.

The information I have on parsley is that culinary uses should be perfectly fine. Teas or tinctures or any concentrated doses are best avoided.

I also thought culinary uses were fine, and I've been eating Tabbouleh here and there without any issues.

Wow I have never heard of this. I LIVED on tabouleh during my first trimester. I seriously ate it every day. It was one of the healthy things I could stomach- maybe because I put lots of extra lemon juice in it. Anyway, for me it's caused no damage- so far, so good.

I ate it almost every single day of my first pregancy. No problems. It is a staple in many countries so if there was REALLY a problem with it there would be more research. I would think anyway.

I would not worry about it. It takes a lot of parsley, taken regularly and often over several days, to stimulate contractions.

Now I'm craving tabouleh.

I was told to take parsley pills to help with the edema in the last part of pregnancy.
