misoprostol / cytotec

Thread Starter
I was prescribed this medication by my m/w as I have been having heavy gushes of bleeding pp. After an u/s she determined that I have some debris in my uterus, which is causing the heavy gushes. I did bleed heavily pp with this birth also ( my 3rd )
My baby is 2 weeks old, is this safe from him to be nursing?
I have 4 tablets, to be inserted vaginally, that's it.

Thanks for any info about this.

did you ask your mw or the pharmacist?

when taken orally, miso is passed into the breastmilk but leaves the system rapidly (kind of like alcohol). as a vaginal suppository, i would guess that even less would be absorbed into the system and passed into the milk, but you should still confirm with a hcp that it is safe to continue breastfeeding on demand, or if you are to take a break, they need to tell you for exactly how long.

i would get on the phone right now and find out what the deal is, so that you can address the bleeding. it's really weird, imo, that your mw didn't proactively counsel you on bf'ing while using the drug, even if the answer is just, "yes, it's fine".
