symptomness fever -- any advice?

my son is 15 months old, and we are currently on day 4 of a symptomless fever.. no coughing, runny nose, congestion, and went to the doctor today and no ear infection or throat infection but the doctor did take a urine sample, though it was useless because their lab closed today, and so we wont get any answers till monday. it seems to be going up and down between 101-104, higher in the late afternoon and evening times.. at nights when it got up to 104, we gave motrin, but i try to keep him unmedicated during the day.
this is my sons first real encounter with a no symptom fever, and i am beginning to get freaked out. have any experienced mamas gone through this before? i really, really don't want to take him to the ER this weekend if the fever hasn't gone down (as per the doctor's suggestion today).. is this more common than i think or should i worry?

also -- if it is a UTI, wouldn't it hurt him to pee? he peed today standing up in the bath and he didn't seem bothered.

My first thought was also UTI, and no, it doesn't always hurt to pee when kids have a UTI. DD had a number of them with her only symptom being fever. Sometimes she wouldn't eat real well, but she didn't seem all that uncomfortable and never fussed when actually peeing.

Hopefully it's just a virus of some sort, but with no other symptoms, I would be concerned about a possible kidney infection. I hope his fever goes down soon!

could be a uti but could also be Roseola. My ds1 had it when he was 9 months old, I was crying at my older dd's school because I was soooo worried he had a uti. Day 4 fever broke and the tell tale rash came. I never thought i'd be so happy to see a rash! It was also 4 days of fever around 104 for us.

look for that rash!!!! good luck!

thank you for your replies! we had a nasty, green chunk and mucousy bowel movement earlier today, so maybe it was a stomach thing? who knows.. i will be monitoring obviously all night and tomorrow so i'll keep this updated..
and girlsmamma2, is it usually always 4 days of fever and then the rash? is the rash painful when it happens?
