Bronchitis and anti-biotics...so confused!

2 1/2 year old DD was diagnosed with bronchitis today. She (and her siblings) have been passing colds all winter. Literally, someone has been coughing for the last six months. I think we're are on our 8th or 9th cold. I'm a little nutty.

Anyway, the doc prescribed anti-biotics. However, on doing research, I understand they only work with bacteria, not viruses. Her siblings do not have bronchitis. She doesn't seem to have the symptoms of bacterial bronchitis: she acts fine, has only a few coughing fits a day, no fever. But since she has been coughing off and on for about six months and because she is so young, I wonder if that's why she was prescribed anti-biotics. I'm really stumped as to what to do.

BTW, she has never taken anti-biotics. And we have tried EVERYTHING natural I can think of. I wonder in the back of my head if it's pertussis...

Can anyone help me out on this???

I recently had bronchitis and am finally getting out the last bit from from lungs. I know you tried natural stuff but I'll share what worked for me.

A friend let me try HAWTHORNE TONIC HBP LIQUID EXTRACT COMPOUND from Wise Woman Herbals and my cough was much better within a 1/2 hour.

My ND and herbal cough syrup from Battle Ground Healing Arts that contains "a blend of Tussilago, Verbascum, Drosera, and Lobelia in vegetable glycerin and grain alcohol." This is what worked best for me by far. My cough was much calmer AND it helped me expel the mucus without wracking my entire body.

My ND said if the above didn't work to try Mussinex (although I don't know if that would work for your little one.)

Thank you so much. I will definitely look into those!

ETA: How do I get a hold of the cough syrup from Battle Ground Healing Arts?

Maybe call them and see if they'll ship it? I don't see why they wouldn't. By the way, I think it was around $22.

Marnica,
Thanks for your opinion. It helps. We're still debating, but leaning toward the "no for now" side.
